The acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi has pledged “to actively listen to concerns” of the students.

ACW-UA PRESS reports that Professor AbdulRasheed Na’Allah’s five year one term tenure recently came to an end in June.

Professor of International Law, Maikudi, now serving as the acting VC, on Tuesday, promised to provide a conducive environment as well as opportunities for students career growth and development.

The acting VC assumed office amidst a lingering internal strike by some members of the Academic Staff Union of University.

The message reads: “I am honored and excited to address you as the  newly appointed Acting Vice- Chancellor of our University. It is a privilege to serve in this role, and I want to assure you that my primary commitment is to your success, well-being, and growth.

“Your experiences, aspirations, and challenges are at the heart of our University's mission. I am dedicated to supporting you in every possible way, ensuring that you have the resources, opportunities, and environment needed to thrive academically, personally, and professionally.

“I pledge to actively listen to your concerns, advocate for your needs, and work collaboratively with you to enhance our campus life and academic programmes. Your voice matters, and I encourage you to share your ideas and feedback with me and the University administration. We will listen.

“Together, we can foster a community where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to achieve their full potential. I look forward to working alongside you and making our University a place of excellence, innovation, and inclusivity.

“Thank you for your trust and cooperation. Let’s make this journey a remarkable one, together.”

MATTERS ARISING: Students appeal for tuition reduction, scrapping of drug test payment, revival of SUG, others

ACW-UA PRESS reports that congratulatory messages continue to pour in for the acting VC as many members of the University community wished her success in her new role.

Meanwhile, some social media users supposedly students and stakeholders of the institution have raised some issues the acting VC should address.

The comments appeared on the official Facebook page of the University of Abuja.

One Gabriel James wrote: “Congratulations ma'am. Try to Revive the SUG which the previous administration crippled, keep to your promise that u will always give a listening ear to the voice of the students. Maintain a healthy relationship with staff and students of the institution and take infrastructural development a notch higher(than where the previous administration stopped)... I wish u well in all.”

Another Facebook user, Ndubuisi Loveday Frank, wrote: “Congratulations Professor. Please try and reduce the tuition fees.”

A student, Clement Pio Emmanuel, itemised issues the acting VC should examine for the benefits of the students.

He wrote: “Thank you Prof. My own appeals as a student of this great institution are as follows;

“1.We want to resume classes as soon as possible. Kindly negotiate with the internal ASUU.

“2.We want you to kindly continue with the legacy of Prof Abdul Rashid Na'Allah as regards security of lives of students especially as regards eradicating all forms of cultism on campus, the former VC did extremely well as regards this and we the students are so happy with him.

“3.We want more classes especially in the faculty of arts. We're lacking so much as regards this.

“4. Please for those students staying in Iddo and Giri, we want more of your support as regards security of our lives. Everyone of us cannot stay in the hostel because of limited bed spaces, the nearest location are these two communities and we want you to assure us of our safety.

“5. Kindly scrap the money(payment) for drug test as mandated by the former administration. Majority of students were not able to complete their medical screening because of this and it will affect them when it's time for clearance. The whole students of current 200l students are affected. They will be happy to hear that your administration has make it free for all especially those that are yet to complete their medical screening because of this particular demand of payment. I wrote to the former administration of the SUG(hon. Edwina Okoro administration) via email, I was told that I was going to be given feedback on this issue but nothing was done as regards this, we want to hear directly from you.

“Finally, sincerely wish you the best in your administration ma'am. Together, we will have the best atmosphere conducive enough for learning. God bless the Great University of Abuja. God bless your administration.”
