ACW-UA : ATER, SOLOMON VENDAGA ONE OF UNIVERSITY OF ABUJA OUTSTANDING STUDENTS TOOK TO HIS PEN TO WRITE WHAT HE TITLED "LETTER TO YOUNG PERSON"

ATER, SOLOMON VENDAGA ONE OF UNIVERSITY OF ABUJA OUTSTANDING STUDENTS TOOK TO HIS PEN TO WRITE WHAT HE TITLED "LETTER TO YOUNG PERSONS"

THE WORLD WE LIVE IN IS A DISTRACTIVE ONE. YOU HAVE TO KNOW YOURSELF TO SCARE THROUGH.
My Dear Young Person,
We live in a very noisy and disturbing world. A world that silence in which knowledge of oneself is gotten is a costly gem to find. It is a deceptive world that is full of confusion and distractions that we are oftentimes lost and plunged in these tumultuous circumstances yet it is in this haphazard world that is full of things that take our attention here and there. This is our world!
It is this world that we are in. It only take those who are intentional and deliberate about what they want to actually do anything important in this world. Only the focused and concentrated ones that can achieve anything desirable in this world.

WHY DO I HAVE TO BRING THESE REALITIES TO YOU?
It is because I'm concerned about you.
It is because I believe in you and I will not want to loose your greatness to the world's distractions.
It is because you're greatly configured for success and I feel the deceptive world wants to snatch that from you.
It is saddened to know that most people have lost virtually everything, some homes are shattered, dreams maimed and plans scattered because those who harbor them were carried away by the flimsy wind of the world's distractions.
Some started well but got distracted by the fantasies of life and the glory of the present things and loosed the focus for the things they've desired. Many will also have the same encounter unless they will turn the tide and wear back their intentional hat!

WHAT DO I HOPE TO ACHIEVE BY WRITING TO YOU ABOUT THESE REALITIES?
It is because there is need to embrace focus on what is important and shun the flaring fantasies of the world that drives focus away and snatch dreams.

WHAT SHOULD YOU THEN DO?
As Socrates rightly opined, know thyself because self knowledge leads to clear vision and right and proper decision making. It is an anchor that holds one's dreams to its realization. It is an understanding of oneself. That is, the knowledge of one's weaknesses and strengths which should form the choice of career pursuit. In fact, just as one of my Mothers (Mrs. Olivia Onouha) will say, "You need to know yourself for us to know you".
So know yourself and what you want, what works for you, what you can do and what you cannot do or should not do. Don't just follow people. That everybody is doing it does not make it right. You're you and they are them , so know yourself. This will help you not only in making right decisions but also in escaping the distractions of this world.
Secondly, occupy yourself with those who have the same vision with you. Network. It is often said that your network is your net worth. Build a social capital, and follow your reference groups.
Follow who know road they said. Learn from mentors. Mentorship is one sustainable way of receiving knowledge. Occupy yourself with them. They will guide you and you'll not loose your focus.
Always strive for the best. Be intentional also. Let your future info your present. The future is build from today and not tomorrow. Keep aiming.
Don't get distracted by other things that does not concern you. Be focused. Be intentional. Be deliberate.
But above all what will help you is knowing yourself. So I say:
Know yourself!
Know yourself!!
Know yourself!!!

Salem!

  1. Dear Solomon, I received your letter with thanks.
Truly, it is easier to lose one's way when one is not intentional about what they want and where they are going to. To be reminded of the many distractions that abound in our world and the need to stay intentionally focused is a thoughtful gesture that I am very appreciativr of.

    Thank you.

  3. I quite appreciate your letter, it is well received and quite educative, for lot of efforts and stress you made to pass this across I pray that God will continue to fortifying and nourishing your knowledge, what a heart touching writeup, it notwithstanding a call to focus for he that has engaged in dogmatic slumber sleeping on his glory thinking that his ancestors misdirecting him and also an encouragement to he that has stood on his toes for the purpose of achieving certain goals, as you rightly posited above which I quote that "Let your future info your present" because for the end to be well achieved both present and future must actually have intercommunicating voice by so doing no focus will be discouraged, no motive will be tempered with and no declination will ever be made whatsoever to hinder one to his promised land. Thank you Solomon Vendaga, accept my humble appreciation.
