The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi, last week disclosed that the local chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities has called off its strike.

The VC, in a message addressed to the students, said students are to resume immediately as lectures will commence on Monday, 29th July.

ACW-UA Press gad reported that lecturers under ASUU had been on strike for more than two months due to internal issues between the union and management.

The acting VC had assured the students that the issue would be resolved.

ACW-UA Press gathered that the Students Union Government held a meeting with ASUU members last week.

However, the recent news from the management was that the strike has been called off, followed by the release of a revised academic calendar.

ACW-UA Press reports that classes will commence for the second semester on July 29, and the students will write exams between October 7–19.

The VC message reads in part: “I am pleased to announce that the local chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has officially called off its strike. Consequently, the university will resume full academic activities starting on Monday, 29th July 2024.

“We deeply appreciate your patience and understanding during this challenging period. We recognize the impact that the strike has had on your academic progress and are committed to ensuring a smooth and effective transition back to regular academic activities.

“To this end, all students are required to return to the university campus by this weekend to prepare for the resumption of lectures. Full-time lectures will commence promptly on Monday. Faculty members have been directed to resume full teaching responsibilities and to provide any necessary support to students during their stay.

“The university administration is dedicated to maintaining a conducive learning environment and will provide all necessary resources to facilitate the continuation of your academic pursuits. We encourage students to take advantage of the support services available, including academic advising, counselling, and other student services.”
