Winner Of The Top Prize On World Poetry Day

KUMA'S POEM 'WHAT A GIFT' WINS TOP PRIZE ON WORLD POETRY DAY: A CAPTIVATING TRIBUTE TO THE STRENGTH AND BEAUTY OF WOMEN

What a Gift

What a girl!
What a gift!
What a pearl!
What a lift!

My father's bronze rib,
Moving with the grace of a leopard.
Your fruit's lullaby and crib.
And your heart's the fountain of pure nard,
Anointing even the brokenhearted.
And though so many do you in  –
The brute and the hardhearted  –
But you're beautiful without and within.
The mothers' mother.
And your lips convince one not to bother.

We are thrilled to announce that Kuma's poem, "What a Gift," has been selected as the winning poem for World Poetry Day. This piece is a beautiful and heartfelt poem that celebrates the beauty and grace of women. It is a tribute to the strength, resilience, and nurturing spirit of mothers who selflessly give of themselves to their families and communities.

The opening lines immediately draw the reader in with the powerful and succinct phrasing "What a girl! What a gift! What a pearl! What a lift!" These lines capture the essence of the poem by emphasizing the inherent value and worth of women.

The poem uses powerful imagery to describe the physical and emotional attributes of women. The reference to the "bronze rib" of the speaker's father moving with the grace of a leopard is a vivid depiction of strength and agility. The imagery of the "fruit's lullaby and crib" and the "fountain of pure nard" evoke feelings of comfort and purity, emphasizing the nurturing and healing qualities of women.

The poem also acknowledges the challenges and injustices that women face in society, with lines such as "And though so many do you in – The brute and the hardhearted – But you're beautiful without and within." These lines acknowledge the struggle and pain that women experience while also affirming their inherent beauty and worth.

The poem culminates in a powerful tribute to mothers, who are described as "the mothers' mother." The final line, "And your lips convince one not to bother," is a poignant reminder of the comforting and reassuring presence of a mother's love.

Above all, "What a Gift" is a beautifully written poem that celebrates the strength, resilience, and beauty of women, while also acknowledging the challenges they face. Its powerful imagery and heartfelt language will resonate with readers and serve as a tribute to the important role that mothers and women play in our lives.

Congratulations to Kuma and thank you to everyone who submitted their poetry.
