The management of the University of Abuja has cautioned its students ahead of the August 1 nationwide protest.

Some Nigerians across the country have called for a nationwide protest against rising cost of living in the country.

In a release by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Aisha Sani Maikudi, on Monday, the management urged the students and staff to stay safe.

The release reads in part: “We urge everyone to take the following precautions:

“Stay on Campus: It is advisable for students to remain on campus where we can ensure a secure environment. This will help you stay focused on your studies, especially since classes have just resumed following the recent ASUU Local Chapter strike suspension.

“Be Cautious: If you need to leave the campus, please exercise extreme caution. Avoid large gatherings and be vigilant about your surroundings.

“Safety Measures: The university has increased security measures to protect our community and property. Security personnel will be on heightened alert to ensure everyone's safety.

“Stay Informed: Keep yourself updated with reliable information from official university communications and trusted news sources. Follow any advisories or instructions issued by the university.”

The VC also admonished the students to be studious while assuring that the management would continue to provide necessary support.

She said, “Focus on your studies. With the resumption of classes, it is crucial to maintain academic momentum. Prioritize your studies and make use of campus resources such as the library and study groups to stay on track.

“Support Available: If you feel anxious or require assistance, please reach out to the university's counselling and support services. Your well-being is our priority.

“We want to assure all staff and students that their safety is our utmost concern. Let us work together to maintain a safe and conducive learning environment during this period.

In a related development, the Students Union Government on Tuesday released phone numbers for emergency situations.

The release reads: “Understanding the importance of calling emergency numbers during critical events is crucial for your safety and the safety of others. Emergency services are equipped to handle various situations quickly and efficiently. In an emergency, dialling the appropriate number ensures that help arrives as soon as possible, which can be life-saving. UJA
