ACW-UA POETRY : Blockbuster poet of THE POETRY WEEKIES EMERGES with " Lock Down"

Lockdown

In dire straits we stand,
Grasping at straws,
Blowing hot and cold for sun to rise again in the east,
Far and wide darkness triumphed,
Streets are grave yard,
Hometown turned into mortuary;

Only the sounds of birds are heard from afar,
Eyes swam with tears,
Would there be light at the end of the tunnel?
With glimmer of hope,
We anticipate to see men hold the flower again.

Background of the Poem

The poem implicitly expounded the current quandary of our society and the world at large.
The poet explained how people are scared as a result of this malady.

In the first line, the poet explained how people are tensed and confused because of the havoc created by this lockdown.

We don't know the way forward, we are stocked in our our houses with no hope.
No more going to school, churches and other daily activities.
Everywhere is calm and quiet.
People are dying everyday but there is no hope to save those who are alive.

We are still wondering if everything will be okay, but the last line answered the question by assuring us hope.

  1. It's a simple but good poem. I'm really impressed that the writer is just in her first year at the university.
I've not read the other poems that this one one is selected from but I think the judgement is based on The Three Gates of Storytelling:1. Is it natural? 2. Does it detain the audience? 3. Does it benefit the society a lot?
    Congrats, ma'am.
