The Waterlogged Soles of our Leaders Shoes

Sometimes ago I had an encounter with the post colonial economy of Nigeria, analysing the major policies and activities of our leaders from 1960 till date. However I stand in the limelight of indignance of how leaders that were elected by the citizenry, some imposed, dealt with the future of the country through their fallible and erroneous policies mostly aimed on satisfying the belly infrastructure that never stops gulping funds at a time. The Mephistophelian nature of our leaders had dawned on the generations unborn, that suffer the toothache of the former's tooth decay.

It is very essential to draw the ignoramusity of our semi-literate society to the ills of leadership that has rendered the present federal republic in shambles. In accordance to historical analysis, our problems as a country started at the fifties where our leaders sabotaged the erection of the Nigerian Colosseum due to their selfish, greedy and opportunistic gallivanting around the country at that period. The leaders took advantage of the masses by washing off their soiled hands on the white shirts of the gullible who ignited the hope and trust in their "saintly figures". This was not without a price as the virtues of transparency died out completely; sentiments were channeled into the hearts of the masses through efficient propaganda which at least smeared a lasting scar on the unity of the nation, Nigeria. The policies of our leaders were not enterprising but revolutionary. This revolutional tendencies gave rise to what Prof. Mutiullah would call "policy abortion". From the onset of Independence, the only policies aptly carried out was during the reign of Gen. Obasanjo who carried on the works of his assassinated boss, Gen. Murtala Mohammed. Apart from that, no government has implemented the policies of subsequent rulers till date, a pity to a nation in apathy. The emergence of political parties has done more harm than good because the leader in question is who plays the puppet in the hands of hungry ventriloquists at the end of the electoral sojourn. No party adopts a watchword, a strategy for the reason of state, an economic and growth plan to alleviate the masses from the present predicament which brings forth my unending disdain.

Notwithstanding, the fate of the country lies in the hands of our leaders who should stop deceiving the masses through purported blarney and vainglorious propaganda and take the job of humanity in sanctity for the reason of the masses that believe in them through their votes. Leaders should desist from leading a life of a master-servant relationship and begin to work for the people. Leaders should come up to negotiate the present and future of the country and come up with a plan to keep the proposed policy alive despite change in government. Leaders should be game changers and not game chasers.
