The Nigerian Universities Education Student's Association (NUESA) University of Abuja Chapter Election which was held today, Tuesday the 29th of October, 2019 was a success however according to Correspondence ; Israel Ogbukada's findings , it recorded low turnout of voters compared to last year. The election which was scheduled to kick off by 8.00am eventually commenced by 11. 00am. Students who spoked to ACW-UA NEWS man who pleaded Anonymous commented that, they have been at the polling units since 7-8am in the morning. Many were seen walking strandedly within the polling units.
The Polling units due to the huge number of Students divided and where situated at Sociology Lecture Hall 1 and Sociology Lecture Hall 2, strictly for 100 and 300Level and 200 and 400Level respectively. Casting of Votes at Sociology Hall 2 was peaceful. An anonymous in 300Level who spoken to News men said, " so, far the election is...ermm..Peaceful. I haven't seen any scene of abnormality".
However, at the other polling unit, Sociology Hall 1,the voting process was slow, some students who could not wait to cast their votes were seen leaving the arena, others were struggling their way to the hall to exercise their franchise. A student of Agriculture Education who pleaded anonymous complained about the system, " I have been here waiting for 3 hours. They could have employed more Adhoc Staffs, so every voter can easily cast their vote and leave the premises"
Shorted of Ballot Papers was observed as about 3.30pm,which lead to uproar and protest by voters, this was promptly intervened as Extra Ballot Papers were supplied. Speaking with one of the Aspirants, he said, " so far so good, I haven't noticed any misconduct, if there is any my agents around the polling units would have informed me".
In an interview with Linda Ambas a final year student of who refused to disclose her department, she stated that "...in the history of education this election is the most free, fair and peaceful". However, conflicting response was gotten from One Miss. Anointed from the Department of Guidence and Counseling, 200Level stated "...this people just dey do nonsense, they know who they dey put". ACW-UA NEWS man tried getting Audiences from Presidential Aspirants but only Martins gave a comment, " things are not working out fine" he said and left.
Getting to speak with the ELECOMM Chairman and Out going president was proved abortive. The voting process finally ended at about 5.30pm. Coalition and Counting are still taking place at Block B. Upstairs as at the time of writing this report.
