'We are the ones suffering’ — SUG President speaks on ongoing ASUU strike

Quadri Yahya

President of the Student Union Government, Abdullahi Bashir, has expressed concern on the ongoing internal strike of the Academic Staff Union of University.

The SUG President pleaded with the lecturers on strike to ‘consider the situation of we the students’.

Bashir gave his voice to the month-long strike in response to queries from students.

He said, “I also want to use this medium as well as the President of the Students Union to plead with our parents, guardians, mentors and by extension our counselors, the ASUU University of Abuja branch to please consider the situation of we the students.

“It's obvious that we're the ones suffering from the ongoing strike. We are the grasses being matched upon to pulp. Some of us have already paid with a period of over a month of inactivity.

“We were hoping to write exams in August, and so many have applied for summer scholarships. Now, the hopes have been deterred as exams may not be held in August. And many more hiccups. It is indeed sad to be a victim of such an occurrence in the Nigeria of the present where youths are losing hope in the nation of their birth, in search of opportunities to “japa” forever, misunderstandings of this sort are very sensitive as they may offer more reasons or validate the existing ones for these far from being patriotic acts.”
