ACW-UA PRESS : FRESHERS SHARES THEIR STRUGGLES AND OPTIMISM.

The University of Abuja has recently commenced its new academic session, welcoming a fresh batch of students into the institution. In a recent interview conducted by ACW-UA Press, several newly admitted 100 level students from various faculties shared their experiences and highlighted common issues they have encountered since joining the university.

A 100 level Law student expressed how the semester has been quite challenging for him as he strives to balance his studies with extracurricular activities in his faculty, such as chambers activities. Despite not initially choosing the University of Abuja as his preferred institution, he acknowledged that the university has indeed met his expectations of a quality education. However, he lamented the delay in uploading examination results, which has been affecting senior students in the faculty, and expressed hope that such issues would be promptly addressed to avoid any adverse impact on his class.

"My first year in school has been overwhelming," expressed a 100 level Microbiology student. She shared her struggles in finding a balance since gaining admission. Moreover, she voiced her frustration about being assigned a hostel at the mini campus instead of the Main campus, which she had initially requested. Nevertheless, she remains optimistic about her academic journey.

Another fresher from the Department of Political Science described his first year in school as "rough" and admitted that the university life was not what he expected. He acknowledged that difficulties may arise but remains hopeful for a better experience in the future. Despite having different expectations upon joining the University of Abuja, he has resolved to adapt to the system.

"I never expected much from the University of Abuja or any other university. Instead, I set expectations for myself regarding what I want to achieve," honestly shared a 100 level English and Literary Studies student. He emphasized that the university is not like a secondary school, and his primary desire is to have a stress-free environment where he can learn with a sound mind.

Several department and faculty presidents shared some of the challenges faced by the students in their respective areas. Comrd Samson Babatunde Ighodaro, the Faculty President of the National Association of Agricultural Science (NAAS), highlighted the current challenge of generating matriculation numbers. However, he assured students that numerous measures have been implemented to ensure a conducive learning environment, including suitable lecture venues and tutorials.

Comrd Michael Afolayan, the Departmental President of the National Association of English and Literary Studies (NASELS), stated that they have been actively assisting students since the campus resumed. From guiding them through departmental procedures to facilitating course registrations and providing constant memos as guidelines, the NASELS team has been working tirelessly. Additionally, students have received tutorials for difficult courses, and the NASELS Academic Committee has supplied them with supplementary study materials.

Comrd. Jubril Abdulsalam, the Faculty President of the National Association of Social Science Students (NASSS), assured the 100 level and other students in the Faculty of Social Sciences that they are well-supported since resuming their studies. He emphasized that various measures, including regular lectures, tutorials, and additional assistance, have been put in place to ensure their academic success. The Faculty Executive Council members are readily available to address their needs.

ACW-UA understands the challenges faced by these students and provided them with a platform to voice their concerns. We wish them success in their academic pursuits.

In conclusion, the University of Abuja has embarked on a new academic session, welcoming a diverse group of fresh students. The institution aims to address the challenges faced by these students and create an environment conducive to learning and growth. With the commitment and support of faculty members and student leaders, the university strives to provide a fulfilling academic experience for its students.
