THE RISE OF OJUKWU
I hear Jungle drums from afar,
Pounding on every heart
Like the Crying of a wild beat
I see their boots ready,
Marching into the Cold Night,
A Night where Knights Fight!
The Fight for Freedom
And sitting in my mother's womb,
I heard a loud cry from
The mighty Ojukwu,
A Sudden Cry from the East,
Wailing like the hungry beast
Ready to pounce on every Feast.
All hail to the Prince of rage,
Such a mighty hero was he
Mother's empty their bowels of joy,
Dancing to the rhythm without a song
I see the gathering of the youth,
Ready for a feast without an End
For tonight bears every child a man.
Therefore they walked into
The cold night ,
Armed to the tooth
Feasting on every flesh,
Leaving only but a Scar on the lips
Of scornful hearts.
The cold night came to an End,
Leaving only but a Ballad I could Tell.

BACKGROUND OF THE POEM.
"The Rise of Ojukwu"
This is a poem about the civil war that happened between 1967-1970 during the regime of Gen.Yakubu Gowon. The war was Led by Chief Chukwuemeka Ojukwu who was a liet.Gen and also the leader of the Easter Nigeria at that time. To many who never heard of the real story believed it was an illegal turn on the government but no one actually talked about the killings of the igbos during the regime that led to the anger of the Eastern Nigeria. My Inspiration behind this poem was the desire to know the Truth and set out that Truth to the public, This heroes have fought and deserved honour. They fought for unity in their tribe which anyone would have done when u feel threatened.
